John Storey is an acoustic folk singer songwriter from Harrogate, North Yorkshire. He has been writing songs and performing his own compositions since 2004.

John’s songwriting journey started in 2003 following a week long workshop with the acclaimed songwriter, Harvey Andrews. Since that time he has written many fine songs, sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, they usually reflect his observations around the Yorkshire area, together with songs of a biographical nature.John provides melodic guitar accompaniment to his songs often with easily learned choruses aimed at audience participation.
John’s first CD: Love, Lives and Landscape was launched in 2008 which was followed in 2010 by a second CD: Storey Lines. Each song is carefully crafted with intelligent lyrics, tells a story and has an easy going catchy melody. Tracks from John’s 3rd CD, “More Storey Lines” released in 2013 are available as a download from Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby and his 2015 album “Storey’s in Song” can be obtained from John via this website contact page.
“For the Children” is a song I wrote as a tribute to Nicholas Winton who organised the evacuation of almost 800 Jewish children from Prague to the UK by train in 1938. When I sang it at the Black Swan Folk Club recently it was well received. Several audience members asked if it was on CD, which it is not. However I do have a live recording which can be accessed by following this link.

Featuring the talented accompaniment of musicians: Sarah Dean (harp and vocals), Angie Gordon (flute), Graeme Urwin (keyboard) and Elaine Wallace (fiddle and vocals). Songs include the ever popular: “If you’d been at Woodstock” and “Middle aged men in Lycra”. Two of the songs are co-written with the outstanding singer songwriter Stan Graham, the rest are all written by John.

14 tracks means something for everyone on this excellent and varied recording There is even a song with a strong jazz feel with excellent backing from Richard Searle (guitar) and Graeme Urwin (keyboard). Stand-out tracks include: “Free and easy days”, “Dear Molly” and “I don’t do any Radiohead”. With a wide range of supporting musicians this CD makes a very fine timeless collection of John’s own compositions.

The much requested “Ewan MacColl and Me” is the feature track of this CD, along with “Farewell Fish and Chips”. “Was it meant to be this way?” is a fine bluegrass original with excellent Dobro playing from Graham Metcalf.
